In September 2018, Hurricane Florence caused extensive damage and flooding along the east coast of the United States. Winds peaked at 140 mph and rain totaled higher than 35 inches along the coast of North and South Carolina. The surrounding regions instantly became devastated by the loss of life, flooding, property damage, utility problems and hindered emergency response, and communications.
In this time of need, our government, first responders, police, fire, emergency management, FEMA, National Guard, SWIC, and simply too many agencies and individuals to even mention, all stepped forward to help their family, neighbors, and strangers.
One group responding is CISG (Critical Infrastructure Support Group), whose President and CEO is Scott Davis. The Critical Infrastructure Support Group (CISG) serves the Federal Government, Public Safety, and the Mission Critical Infrastructure market. CISG is a Critical Communications Infrastructure Consulting Provider.
During the hurricane Florence deployment, CISG supported three (3) Forward Operating Bases across three (3) states, as well as a Logistical/Supply Center in Stone Mountain, Ga.
FOB (Ground) Fort Lee, VA. (FOB-Forward Operating Base) FOB (Ground) Garner, NC.
FOB (Ground/Air) Spartanburg, SC. / FOB Spartanburg would later become
FOB Darlington as units pushed forward into the affected area in SC.
Utilizing the ACU-2000, CISG was able to leverage the JPS VIA PoC technology connecting operational communications locally with Federal Assets arriving in the theater of operations for support. Additionally, this also allowed the National Command Center to monitor real time communications in the field. This included Logistical Staging Areas, Forward Operating Bases, and Operational Units in the field both Ground and Air. Federal Assets equipped with Smart Phones had access to radio communications utilizing the JPS VIA PoC technology without the need to carry multiple radio platforms.
The use of the ACU-2000 in the field allowed Air Assets, both Rotary and Fixed wing, the ability to communicate directly with their own national communications center without having to utilize any specialized equipment. The pilots communicated via their aircraft radios just as in their day to day activities. Utilizing the ACU 2000, we were able to send their communications via satellite to their own communications center.
The success of the JPS VIA PoC platform has proven to our Federal, State and Private Partners the flexibility and effectiveness of the JPS product in the field.
